Abstract | Array or Bit-planes, Run-length codes, Chain-codes and Quadtrees have been representing images. Each representation possess the advantages and the disadvantages. In this research study, the algorithms for converting between image representations have been implemented and these conversions are combined in the form of an integrated system to get all the advantages of comprising representations. Using this integrated system, different image processings can be executed efficiently. The flexibility of changing one representation to another representation in this system is achieved partially by implementing the following algorithms : Bit-Plane to Quadtree conversion, Bit-Plane to Run-length conversion, Quadtree to Run-length conversion, Run-length to Chain-codes conversion and Chain-codes to Quadtree conversion. Therefore the system is still not a full integrated system, and it is recommended to further develop/implement the algorithms : Quadtree to Chain-codes conversion, Chain-codes to Run-length conversion and Run-length to Quadtree conversion. In addition to the development of the integrated system, an alternative algorithm for quadtree to run-length conversion has been developed. The result shows that the developed algorithm is three times faster in the actual execution time than the existing similar-algorithm. However the attractiveness of the new developed algorithm is in its simplicity and its strict! y use of the tree structure for the tree traversal. |
