Abstract | Energy balance and crop Water-use of a Wetland ricefield subjected to 10 days drying periods at the maximum tillering and flowering stages, respectively, were investigated at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand during the dry season of 1987. Net radiation and soil heat flux were measured while latent heat flux was calculated from evapotranspiration measured with a 1 m. X 1 m. lysimeter. From the other energy balance components, sensible heat flux was estimated. Soil heat flux comprised a small fraction of Rn (<5%) , and therefore, can be considered negligible in the total energy balance of the field. Latent heat flux consumed the major portion of the energy supplied by net radiation during almost all periods of the crop duration. This caused consumption of energy from the adverted sensible heat into the field which started during the crop development stage and was indicated by negative sensible heat flux values calculated that time on. An average ratio of LE/Rn of 1. 31 for the season was estimated. Sensible heat advection remained nearly stable until the maturation period when maximum average sensible heat flux was estimated at -6. 07 MJ/m2 -day. Effects of the drying periods were observed in terms of reduced number of tillers, decrease in leaf area index, dry matter production and grain yield of the rice crop. |
