AbstractA Precooling system was designed and developed that can perform different methods of cooling, namely: hydrocooling, air cooling/forced-air cooling, and hydraircooling. It is mainly used to precool tropical fruits and vegetables having varied and distinct product cooling requirements. Several tests have been made to the Precooling device by using selected fruits and vegetables such as cucumber, mango and papaya to evaluate its performance as well as of determining which methods are best adaptable and most efficient for each product. Statistical analysis through regression studies and least significant difference (LSD) tests were considered in establishing temperature ratio (TR) relations as well as the recommended cooling methods for all the products studied. Results indicated that cucumber, mango, and papaya could be best pre-cooled through hydraircooling, hydrocooling, and forced-air cooling, respectively.
