Abstract | Controlled atmosphere storage of mature green mangoes
of 'Rad' variety, to prolong the storage life was studied. A
simple controlled atmospheric chamber was constructed by using
polyethylene film supported by iron bar framework. The structure
was mad e gas tight by water sealing at the floor. Originally 9
treatments were studied with combination of 4%, 6%, 8% C02 and
4%, 6%, 8% 02. The fruits used had impact injury, were nonuniform
in maturity. Due to the difficulty .in controlling 9 CA chambers,
the treatments were reduced to five. The five treatments selected
were 4%C02 - 4%02; 6%C02 - 4%02; 4%C02 - 6%02; 6%C02 - 6%02; and 8%C02 -
6%02 . All treatments were kept at 13 °c, in a refrigerated room
together with untreated fruits at this concentration
when stored for 20 days. Fruits stored under 4%C0 2- 6%02 were
highly accepted by most panelists when sensory evaluation was
conducted after 25 days storage, followed by 4%C02 - 4%0 2-stored
fruits. There were no significant differences in quality
attributes in CA - stored fruits. |
