Abstract | The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) integrated farming system was the studied area to demonstrate applicability of t he case study . The objectives are :(1) t o estimate the probabilities of having sufficient amount of water in the fish ponds to maintain fish culture throughout the year: (2) to determine avail ability of surplus water for other farm purposes: ( 3) to estimate the return from alternative uses of t he water. This study offers a computer program for fish pond model to estimate the depth in the fish ponds. The linear programming search for optimal farm plan by incorporating the farmers ' multiple goal, risk factors, subsistence requirements and crop and livestock preference while taking into account the farmers ' physical, hiological and socioeconomic environments. The results of the study shows that; (l)fish culture have a sufficient amount of water to maintain throughout the year; (2) the various alternative uses of water were synthesized based on the different farmers 'point of view. It was found that the highest net income was obtained in rearing one ( 1) fish cycle for 5-6 months period and the remaining water is used for growing vegetable; (2) this study is capable of helping researchers in designing suitable technologies and management practices and in setting t he directions for future research in agricultural production. |
