AbstractExperimental and theoretical studies on cross flow microfiltration are reported in this thesis report. Experiments were conducted with various kinds of membrane porA sizes and different nature and with different suspensions. 1be experi ments were also conducted with different operating parameters like cross flow velocity, pressure difference etc. The applicability of various filtration l aws proposed by Hermans and Bredee to decribe different reglons of filtration were examined . Regions follow first the initial region, t hen the standard blocking region, transition region, and finally the cake filtration region. The pretreatment by flocculation for prior particle size enlargement in the improvement of microfiltration performances were also verified in this study. The suitability for the treatment of water treatment plant back wash wastewater was also studied.
