AbstractThis work was undertaken to study various aspects of municipal and industrial wastewater effluent to Ravi river (Lahore) , such as existing river quality, water quality parameter s , water quality index, pollution condition, assimilative capacity,. classification and zoning of Ravi river a l on g 7 2 kilometer stretch of Lahore city. A water quality model QUAL-II was used for the analysis of collected data. A steady state simulation was done for the 72 .Kilometer reach of Ravi river. From this study it can be said that the existing river water quality is good at upstream (Yar Pur village), and heavily polluted at downstream during drought sea s o n . The existing BOD load of the river is much below than the assimilative capacity of the river. The quality of river water de graded as the municipa1 and industria1 waste inlets were introduce d along the reach. To maintain the river quality for the beneficial uses , such as irrigation, fish culture , recreation and public water supply at Balloki) stream standards for Ravi river were proposed . To achieve the proposed standards appropriate treatment methods were suggested, on the basis of waste and river water qua1ity analysis data.
