AbstractSamples of Hua Hin gneiss were collected from Khao Sanam Chai of Hua Hin town. The physical, mechanical and mineralogical properties of Hua Jlin gneiss are studied in detail in the laboratory. The correlations between various properties were made and the index properties were established. The results show that the values of the mineralogical and physical properties vary greatly. The orientation of foliation plane influences the mechanical properties of Hua Hin gneiss. The shear strength of Hua Hin gneiss has a maximum and a minimum values when B=90° and B=42-45° respectively. The tensile strength has a maximum value when Bl =0° and decreases with increasing Bl angle. The sonic velocity reaches a maximum value at B=0° and decreases with increasing B angle. Relationship between Schmidt hammer hardness and uniaxial compressive strength and that between Schmidt hammer hardness and sonic velocity are found to be good index properties of Hua Hin gneiss. The Hua Hin gneiss can be classified as high strength with high modulus ratio rock .
