AbstractStructural features in Southeast Asia are the consequences of the collision between the Indian sub-continent and the Eurasian plate. The northward under thrusting Indian plate causes dynamic internal deformations in Burma, southern China and Thailand. Shallow depth earthquakes are associated with the movements along the Sagaing Fault in Burma, the Red River Fault in South China, major fault zones in the we stern and the northern Thailand, and rifts and transforms in the Andaman Sea . Earthquakes of different magnitude are associated with potentially active faults such as Chiang Rai Fault, Mae Tha Fault Zone, Thoen Fault Zone, Phrae Fault Zone, Moei Uthai Thani Fault, and Si Sawat Fault. The Three Pagodas Fault Zone is one of the active faults in Thailand marked by young tectono-geomorphic features and a slip rate of 3 .9 mm per year . Seismic hazard zonings (peak ground acceleration, and peak particle velocity) at two different risk levels reveal Burma, and western and northern Thailand as potential seismic hazardous areas . Cities in the northern Thailand are more prone to seismic hazard than cities in the southern part.
