AbstractThe determination of inventory policies in manufacturing environment is a critical concern and lot sizing problem is an important inventory decision in order to determine the order size and the time to place an order. This research focuses on lot sizing problem to minimize inventory total cost and presents a basic model for determining ordering lot sizes in multi - level multi-item material requirements planning managed inventory systems subject to discrete, deterministic demand over a finite planning horizon. Three extended model under different conditions, such as: capacity limitation, spare parts and lead time, are also presented. A company provided demand and cost data related to one of their product lines to test the performance of the developed model in this dissertation. These models are solved using IBM MPSX/MIP 370 package. The study of policy development for actual product has demonstrated that the developed model are useful tools that can be expected to be employed beneficiation in developing inventory policy for actual inventory control systems. The sensitivity analysis and implementation steps of these models are also presented.
