AbstractThe main purpose of this study is to develop an interactive microcomputer program for the design of prestressed ferrocement cylindrical shell roofs. The program has the capacity to analyze symmetrical cylindrical shells under uniform loading for the following simple span cases: single barrel shells without edge beams, if L/R > 5 and interior shells of multiple system, if L/R > 2. An approximate method based on the assumption of simplified structural behavior is use d for the analysis and the determination of stress resultants. A parametric study is conducted in order to examine the influence of the variation of prestress on various design parameters. Design examples for both ordinary and prestressed ferrocement cylindrical shell roofs are presented to illustrate the capability and efficiency of the program.
