AbstractThe solution is presented for the consolidation of saturated elastic soils, due to water loss from aquifers by pumping from a well. The well is embedded in the half-space at the interface between soil layer and aquifer. The governing equations are obtained according to the Biot's theory and the solution have been solved applying Laplace and Hankel transforms of which the inversions can be achieved using Shapery' s approximation technique and direct numerical integration respectively. Some particular cases have been evaluated and comparisons have been made ยท with . the other existing studies. It is found that the solution presented can be applied to practical problems such as land subsidence due to well pumping in Bangkok.
