Abstract | A simple finite element analysis procedure for the spatial finite displacement analysis of cable supported structures is proposed in this research. The finite element method has been used for solving cable systems primarily through the use of higher ,, order elements and others like equivalent Young ' s modul~s method. The most efficient way of solving such problems is \ thro~gh the use of simple straight cable elements which is very easy to formulate and cheap to compute -, They are well suited for solving problems involving very large displacements; and complicated effects like prestressing, contact problems and .dynamic forces can b e easily accounted for. In this present study a method is established for the analysis of a combined cable structure which features the separation of the cable analysis and frame analysis for general loading and boundary conditions applicable for structures with any original configuration and to be conveniently utilized for routine use in practical application. The formulation is intended to incorporate the nonlinear behaviour of the cable element for the finite displacement behavior of t h e structure. Some numerical example are worked out for a simple cable combined structure for different cases to support the theory. |
