Abstract | A skew plate with eccentric stiffeners spanning in one direction is analysed by means of a variational principle, leading to a governing differential equation of order nine together with nine boundary conditions (4 in the direction without stiffeners and 5 in the other direction). The governing equations obtained in this research hold for all parallelogram shaped plates with eccentric stiffeners spanning in one direction. They agree exactly with those existing when the angle of skewn is equal to 90 degrees. Neglecting the lateral bending and bimoments of the stiffeners yields an approximate theory with an eight order differential equation. For practical purposes, a simplification is made by taking the skew angle in some expressions to be 90 degrees. Consequent1y, a fourth order differential equation is obtained in the same form as for rectangular stiffened plates. |
