Abstract | Overviews o f knowledge-based expert systems and structural design were presented and as a result, structural design was found to be suitable to be a domain of expert systems. A general strategy for developments a nd applications of expert systems for structural design was proposed. As examples of implementation of expert system features in structural design computer programs, two programs were developed, one to show the advantages of structural design expert systems over conventional programs, the other to show the learning feature of expert systems. Finally, the future of expert systems in structural design was discussed a nd recommendations for further research in this promising field were put forward. |
