AbstractThe aim of the research work was to study images obtained at remote sensing center at Asian Institute of Tec hnology and to apply some Artificial Intelligence t echniques for better understanding of t he images. As the images were not directly avail able on IBM microcomputers, a lot of effort was spent on image processing tasks themselves. This report presents the efforts undertaken in the fol lowing areas: ( 1 ) Pre-processing of images u sing DIMAPS facility at Remote Sensing Center Digital Laboratory and transferring them to floppy diskettes for u se on the IBM PC and the development of efficient procedures for storing the images using quadtrees structures; (2) Identification of line segments in an image; (3) Creation of rules and metarules for putting the line segments together a nd rules for classification of the lines.
