| Abstract | The objective of this study is to desi gn and implement an expert system, called TRIM-ES, for solving single machine trimming prob l ems in the paper i nd ustry. The know l edge base of TRIM- ES was obtained by i ntensive interview with experts in the industry and stored i n the form of production rules. A comparison of results obtained by using TRIM- ES with those obtained by using manual and operations research techniques shows the effectiveness of the de sign. |
