Abstract This study is concerned with the development of a Judicial Scheduling Algorithm(JSA) for the Criminal Court, Bangkok, Thailand. The algorithm is designed using a heuristic approach. The proposed algorithm consists of five vital subalgorithms. The first is to obtain the conflict-free concept which is an extension of the existing common avail able periods. The second is to provide an ability for scheduling a multi-period of length greater than two which is also an extension of the method for entering multi- period of length two time units. The third is a new method which provides a n ability to locate the suitable period in the following sense: (i) locating t h e periods t hat fit the required length , if one exist; ( ii ) locating the period position of the consecutive periods which exceed the required length by one, if such periods exist; ( iii) locating the first period position, if the above two types of suitable periods do not exist. The fourth is to provide an ability of c hanging a specified date when the system cannot provide the scheduling The final is to provide an ability to reserve the resources in advance according to the specified amount of days which is an interval between two scheduling date . The proposed scheduling system is coded in COBOL. The system can provide a conflict- free scheduling with best suitable period, near suitable period or first period. It also provides an automatic scheduling .
