AbstractThe study applied Version 1.0 of the Services Identification and Locations Package (SILP), a microcomputer-based program in the analysis of the centrality and accessibility patterns of settlements to selected public and social services in a subregion in the Philippines. Single service analyses were done for five services namely, (a) large market, (b) large hospital, (c) intermediate market, (d) district hospital, and (e) rural health unit. Composite services analysis considered three major groups of facilities which are : (a) large and intermediate markets, (b) large hospital, district hospital and rural heal t h unit, and (c) postal, telegraph and telephone facilities. The microcomputer-aided analysis indicates that gaps for most of the services exist in the settlements of the northwestern and eastern parts of the study area. The analysis also simulated new road improvement measures as a short term development strategy for easing out problems of access of people in the underserved areas. As a further study, it is suggested that the microcomputer program be used for specific short-range single facility analysis which is more applicable than the composite scores based on a combination of several facilities.
