AbstractThis study derronstrates the irrplications of adapting Just-In-Time production system in a developing country environment. A system dynamics model of a manufacturing industry has been developed in which a set of decisions related to Just-In-Time are irrplemented. The decisions taken outside of the finn are taken as given. The behaviour of the production system is examined when it is disturbed from equilibirium. The irrplementation of Just- In-Time system results in increased cost and permanent loss of ma.rket share and lonering the safety stocks. The policy of adding Kanban according to changes in dema.nd introduces disturbances in Parts Inventory. A new system, which borrons decision priciples both from MRP and Just-In-Time system,. is proposed as an alternative for the developing countries. The proposed system reduces fluctuations in Work-In- Process and Parts Inventories, while also improving profitability and market share.
