| Abstract | Manufacturing enterprises basically undertake the responsibility for
three primary interrelated functions; namely, procurement of raw materials, conversion of raw materials into products, and distribution of these
products to customers. Any decision taken for one function strongly effects the consequent decisions of the other functions since these functions are highly interrelated. The decisions are also further influenced
by environmental factors in which the enterprise is positioned.
The published literature relating to the analysing integrated
procurement-production-distribution systems is very scarce. The application of multiple objective analysis relating to this system is almost
nonexistent. However, such an integrated procurement-production-distribution system requires multi objective management perspectives. There are some goal programming applications available dealing
with either procurement or production or distribution functions.
In this study a goal programming model has been constructed for integrated procurement-production-distribution system and validated for a
large public limited Indian Company which is engaged in the business of
room air-conditioners. The model has been tested under alternate changing
goal priority structures to generate procurement- production-distribution
schedules. The sensitivity with respect to changing demands, plant capacities, budget levels, transportation cost and initial inventory levels
has been studied. |
