AbstractThe person-on - board high-rise ware house storage system of China Steel Corporation was studied. The batching, picking a nd storage policies were analyzed and a methodology includes a newly developed storage policy was proposed in order to improve the performance of the existing system. The new storage policy is a grouped storage policy, that considers two special features of person-on-board system: picking tour and part familiy. The computational results of the proposed methodology shows saving of 83% in picker's traveling time. This saving improves the efficiency of warehousing and reduces the labour cost. The proposed storage policy can economically be implemented in any person-on-board system and will probably lead to considerable e savings.
