AbstractThis study develops a goal programming model for optimal production planning policy in a concrete paving stone plant in Thailand. The model allows management to arrive as closely as possible the desired goals of the firm. In this model demand is divided into a project and consumer section; lost sales only occur in the consumer section. The model considers 7 goals, associated with production time, cost and inventory level. These are (1) avoiding the under- utilization of plant capacity; (2) minimizing product shortage from consumer demand; (3) minimizing the total cost of production; (4) maximizing the total profit; (5) confining the sales revenue for new products to a specified target; (6) minimizing the total inventory level; and (7) confining the total overtime to a desire level. The model is solve d using a Sequential Linear Goal Programming CSLGP> algorithm implemented via the MPSX package. An extensive sensitivity analysis of the production planning problem is reported to examine the effect of changed priority structures of the firm goal and changes in some model parameters, i.e. production time availability, demand, plant capacity, cost, selling price and total budget availability.
