Abstract | This study, concerns with the development and application of the productivity planning and monitoring the models for an engineering industry, manufacturing different types of wire ropes. The company under study, at present does not have any performance monitoring indicators. So, as to help the management for further planning of the different manufacturing process activities, the company has been studied in relation to its manufacturing units. Several models, like total productivity, total factor productivity, partial factors productivity etc., has been developed for the company as a whole. Further, more to know in detail about the performance of different units of the manufacturing system, machine performance system has been derived. These models, have been applied to data collected for a period about one year. From the analysis of these data and the models low productivity areas of the company have been identified. Cause and effect diagrams, have been developed to ascertain the vitality of the various factors affecting productivity. Some improvement strategies have been outlined for the company to plan and monitor the performance on a continuing basis. |
