AbstractThe study presents an economic evaluation of a privately-owned company's investment of operating passenger buses on some inter- city bus routes. Forecasts of passenger demand in terms of the number of bus trips, which at l east is required to meet the passenger demand, are estimated by time-series techniques to be a main basis for modelling both passenger revenue and bus operating cost . Regression methods are applied to discover and measure the effect of relevant independent variables on both passenger revenue and bus operating cost. Findings indicate that a double logarithmic transformation is appropriate a nd facilitates de fining of the elasticity, which is very elastic in case of the passenger fare elasticity of bus revenue. Within the net present value and the internal rate of return criteria, a financial cost-benefit analysis is employed. Finally, sensitivity analysis on relaxing of some sensitive figures are taking into account. It is also suggested how the company should do in the decision making of inter-city bus operations.
