AbstractIn this study a computer model for predicting the supplemental irrigation requirement of Aman rice in Bangladesh has been developed. The model is based on simple water balance principles which simulates the daily water balance during crop season from transplanting to the drainage date. With the developed model supplemental irrigation requirement for critical stage (41 -70 DAT) of Aman rice was found to vary from 0-200mm with an average of 70 - 75mm for one irrigation only. The total irrigation requirements for Aman rice was found to vary from 200 - 5OOmm with 2-9 number of irrigation which averages to 4 irrigation in a season. It has also been found that most or the areas of Bangladesh have the potential or meeting atleast 50% or irrigation needs of the critical stage (41-70 DAT)by the runoff water of initial stage (1-40 DAT). Maps showing isolines of planting dates of Au s and Aman rice, irrigation requirements at stage-2, total irrigation , ratio of runoff. at stage-1 to irrigation requirements at stage-2 have also been prepared.
