Abstract | Small scale hydropower generation ha s been widely advocated means of development of energy resources for meeting rural energy requirements in the developing countries. This study indicates advantage of small scale hydro power when compared to diesel power plants on one hand and the grid supply on the other. Policy matter has been outlined and issues in the socio-economic evaluation aspects have been dealt with. Economic viability is comparatively restrained by low capacity utilization and high production costs. Cost reduction and improvement in supply is deemed necessary in the present context. |
