Abstract | A mathematical model for fluidized bed charcoal gasifier was developed taking into account fluidized bed hydrodynamic conditions, chemical reaction rates , mass diffusion rates, conservation of mass and energy . I n the course of model development modified "bubble assemblage model" developed by KATO & WEN(l969) was assumed. In the later stage of the study the mode l was extended to fluidized bed combustion in order to validate the model using published experimental data by CAMPBELL(1975). A simple extension of the fluidized bed charcoal gasifier model was done to make it applicable for wood gasification . In this part of the study, wood pyrolysis in fluidized bed was assumed to be instantaneous and pyrolysis product distribution was taken from published data by VAN DEN AARSEN(1982) . Model simulation results shows qualitative resemblance with the limited literature data available. Experimental results showed qualitative agreement with the theory. However, experimental data showed lower carbon monoxide content than predicted from the model. Study on rate of wood pyrolysis and pyrolysis product distribution for large ( > 3 mm) wood particles in inert gas fluidized bed is recommended. |
