AbstractThis study provides an overview of the Malaysian environmental legislation. The field investigations and interviews of the various sectors (Government, NGOS, industries, consultancies, press and academic institutions) were carried out during September to November 1985 to collect information and data relating to the study. Based on available information and data relating to the study. Based on available information from these sources, the fulfillment of Malaysia's environmental legislation was evaluated. A detailed review of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and an analysis of the legislative and institutional provisions for pollution control has been undertaken. Views and comments from various sectors on environmental legislation are summarized. Summary and suggestions to overcome the enforcement problem were identified.
