Abstract | Exit conditions were defined as those conditions existing or occurring along the exit link of an intersection. Queue formation may be the most obvious phenomenon due to existence and occurrence of these conditions. Crossing time and time headway of vehicles passing through the upstream intersection of the exit link were measured and analyzed to determine the effect of queue position in the exit link as well as to identify the point at which the traffic leaving upstream intersection behaves differently. Required data including queuing conditions in exit link, crossing time and time headway were collected at an intersection and its downstream link through the video tape-recording technique. A micro-computer assisted system was used to record, store and analyze these data . The results obtained from this study indicate that within a particular range of queue length in the downstream link, the speed and the saturation flow (expressed by crossing time and headway respectively in the study) are significantly affected. |
