Abstract | Physical properties of soil can be predicted by several methods using many types of apparatus. Choosing the Ultrasonic apparatus to investigate these soil properties was acceptable especially if the time as a limitation. Fast and easy to handle this apparatus both in field and laboratory made possibility to reduced cost of investigation. With Ultrasonic test apparatus, compressional and shear wave velocity can be measured. If the velocity obtained in the laboratory can be related to the properties of soil like water content, dry density, porosity, elastic moduli etc. its possible to obtained field condition by this simple test. Test result carried out the effect of density, water content and size of soil sample to P and S-wave velocity measurements related to the elastic properties of the materials. These relationship gives some idea of possibility to predict soil properties in fast. Comparing P-wave and S-wave velocity to the result of unconfined compression test, the properties of soil in static condition can be estimated. Also static and dynamic relationship will be known. |
