AbstractWhile the emergence of cryptocurrency introduced blockchain technology, especially in the FinTech sector, there are several use cases for decentralized finance leveraged by blockchain technology. However, negative consequences from cryptocurrency as a means of payment have been raised recently with price fluctuation and cybersecurity. Therefore, central banks and jurisdictions consider promoting a retail CBDC to alleviate the issue of cryptocurrency, retain a stable value, and develop financial products through CBDC infrastructure. This paper explores the potential of retail CBDC adoption by applying the blockchain research framework to investigate the potential of the enhanced two-tier model collaborating with the current banking system. Moreover, this research study evaluates the considerations of retail CBDC adoption amongst users, financial institutions, and the central bank. The research contributions expose technology implementation based on blockchain concept, the suggestion for commercial banks about financial stability, and the amendment of the regulatory framework related to retail CBDC adoption.
