AbstractThe development and dissipation of excess pore pressure due to driving of a single pile in Bangkok subsoil was predicted by means of the computer program, CAMFE. The predicted values were compared with the field data. A finite element formulation in the total Lagrangian mode of description is presented for the nonlinear analysis of axisymmetric solids. The differential system, consisted of governing equations of equilibrium and boundary conditions is discretized by the Galerkin's weighted residual method to result in a nonlinear algebraic equations system which is solved by the Newton-Raphson iteration technique. Reduced numerical integration technique was employed to avoid the ill-behaviour of the formulation caused by the nearly incompressible condition of the material. The developed element model has a provision to consider the material nonlinearity. Two numerical examples are presented to verify the correctness and consistency of the program. The upheave of surrounding soil due to the driving of a single pile was predicted for three different situations at the pile-soil interface. The computations are achieved by the FEAP MACRO program (ZIENKIEWICZ, 1977). A comparison was made between the results and the field observations.
