AbstractIn this study, 18 in-situ screw plate tests were carried out. At the same time three types of laboratory test were performed, namely: 18 unconfined compression tests, 31 unconsolidated-undrained triaxial tests, and 18 consolidation tests. The screw plate tests were carried out at three sites in AIT campus in soft clay only. At each site 6 tests were performed at 3 levels , namely: 2.50 m, 4.50 m, and 6.00 m. Also, at each site 3 boreholes were made for sampling. At each borehole, 3 samples of 0.60 cm length were taken at test levels. The screw plate test results were calibrated with UU triaxial test results and it was found that bearing capacity factor, Ne, which is defined as ratio of Pusp to Suuu, is 11.00, where Pusp is ultimate bearing capacity determined from screw plate test and Suuu is undrained shear strength obtained from unconsolidated-undrained triaxial test. It was also found that the undrained modulus factor, K, which is defined as ratio of Euuu(w)/pa, is 0 . 61, where Euuu is undrained shear strength determine from unconsolidated-undrained triaxial test, w is settlement of the screw plate, and p is applied stress. The screw plate test results were also correlated with UC test and UU test from this study as well as with vane shear test from KHALEQUE (1984), and pressuremeter test from CHANG (1985) and the following correlations wer e drawn: (1) The ultimate bearing capacity det ermined from screw plate test, Pusp, is 0.68 times that from pressuremeter test, Pup. (2) The undrained shear strength determined from screw plate test, Susp, is 1.19 times that from UC test, Suuc. (3) The undrained shear strength determined from screw plate test in this study, Susp, is equal to that from UU triaxial test, Suuu, but the average values using Eq. 2.1 is 1.10 times those from UU test. (4) The undrained shear strength determined from screw plate test, Pusp, is 0.78 times that from vane shear test, Suv. (5) The undrained shear strength determined from screw plate test, Pusp, is 0.68 times that from pressuremeter test, Sup. (6) The undrained modulus determined from screw plate test in this study, Pusp, is 1.04 times that from UU triaxial test, Euuu, but the average value of Eq. 2.2 is 1.15 times that from UU test . (7 ) The undrained modulus determined from screw plate test, Eusp, is 0 .85 times that from pressuremeter test, Eup. Furthermore, the pressure -settlement-time relationship was evaluated and it was found that the logarithm of settlement rate, log s, decreased linearly with the logarithm of time, log t, and that it increased with the logarithm of stress level, log P', where P' is the ratio of applied stress, P, to ultimate bearing capacity, Pu.
