Abstract | This paper examines the difference in perception of digital transformation and its impact between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large enterprises across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. At present, the region and its growth have been severely harmed by the COVID-19 virus, which has resulted in a significant surge in digital transformation projects. However, studies have revealed that the APAC region is still lagging behind its neighbouring regions in terms of digital adoption and development. Incorporating evidence from articles, journals, books and various other online databases, the study reveals that there have been many recent initiatives by the regional governments regarding digital transformation however, there are also various issues such as conflicting cross-border regulations, lack of digital infrastructure, appropriate education and skilled human resources that are interfering with APAC’s true gain from digital transformation. The study also discovered that digital transformation in SMEs and large enterprises is a more complex focus, with SMEs being superior at employee integration, automating core systems, and agile change management compared to large enterprises, which are typically better at strategizing and automating supply chain management. Ultimately, both firms were found to have their own pain points and gain points. The research results, which included a balance of primary and secondary data accumulated during my internship at the S2M-group, supplemented the literature review and the aforementioned theories. Finally, after conducting a SWOT analysis by summarising and categorising the collective data, the results revealed that both types of organisations perceive Digital Transformation as a critical process and investment required for recovery following the pandemic, and failure to do so may result in business failure and loss of competitive position. The study's limitations were also addressed, including the method of data collection and sample demographic. |
