Abstract | A microcomputer package , " mTABS " is developed on a 16 bits microcomputer (IBM.PC) for static and free vibrational analysis of building systems. The 3D building model is treated as a system of 20 frame and shear wall substructures interconnected by rigid floor diaphragms. Frame substructures may include columns (vertical) , beams (horizontal) as well as diagonal members. Bays of unequal heights are also possible by using dummy members, of which material properties are specified zero. Finite widths of members may be considered by specifying rigid zone at both ends. For columns and diagonal members , axial , bending and shear deformations are considered. Axial deformation of beam is neglected, however , in beam member due to the rigid diaphragm assumption, Lateral load cases can be applied in two orthogonal directions to each floor slab. Vertical load cases can be applied to beam members. For free vibration of the building systems , the modified subspace iteration procedure is employed to obtain any specified number of frequencies from the eigensystem. Mass of the building systems is assumed to lump at the center of gravity of individual floors. Using the fundamental frequency , equivalent static lateral loads can be evaluated according to the Uniform Building Code of the U.S. (1982 Edition). |
