Abstract | The stability of plane frame structures with initial imperfections has attracted considerable attention since it is related with the load carrying capacity of frames at the ultimate state. By making use of the advantage of the computer nonlinear analysis method, a new approach of stability analysis of imperfect plane frame structures h as been developed in this study. No previous expressions were used and no necessity that the structure should be simple as in other analysis method. The nonlinear analysis takes into account the effect of axial forces in members, the initial out - of- plumb of the structure and the initial curvature of the members. The stability functions and a new nonlinear expression of axial stiffness are use d to revise the stiffness matrix. By means of the computer program, the effects of initial imperfections investigated. on the buckling of elastic structures were The relations hip between the idealized system and imperfection sensitivity of the corresponding imperfect system have been outlined and compared with the theoretical conclusions developed by Koiter. |
