Abstract | Self-leadership is a self-influence process for an individual to lead oneself. The self-leadership strategies are developed to extend a positive influence on personal effectiveness and to create an employee empowerment practice. However, after more than two decades, most people rarely hear about self-leadership. This research paper aimed to understand the real practice of self-leadership strategies among Thai workers by probing into three main research questions. First, how Thai employees apply selfleadership strategies to their workplaces? Second, Which strategies of self-leadership lack in practice among Thai employees? Third, What extrinsic work-related factors have an impact on self-leadership development among Thai employees? The method of this research is based on grounded theory. The process of the methodology was using secondary data and the interview for collecting data, and then, analyzing the data from fifteen participants. The findings in this paper will show a new way of understanding about the practical application of self-leadership strategies in use among Thai workers. Furthermore, the research found that the constructive thought patterns strategies lack in use among Thai employees. Last, the interview data presented the extrinsic workrelated factors have an impact on self-leadership practice in Thai organizations. There are three factors included; 1) Working relationships, 2) External rewards, and 3) Formal Leaders in organizations. In conclusion, it can be interpreted that improving the use of self-leadership strategies in practice among workers does not only depend on the intrinsic factors of each individual but also have the additional influential factors from the extrinsic level. In essence, the research aims to provide more practical benefits for both individual and business levels if we can understand about the real circumstance of self-leadership strategies in practice. |
