Abstract | The study was aimed principally to develop effective drainage module models for lowland rice areas . Mathematical models were formulated considering the irrigation and drainage system layout, method of irrigation supply and rainfall history, The applicability of the models to field situations was compared to t he drainage module determination method developed by the International Institute for Land Reclamation and Improvement (ILRI, 1980a ), The results showed that the ILRI graphical method under estimates the design drainage module due to the non- validity of some of its basic assumptions , In contrast , the models were found to give expected values of the design drainage module and maximum water rise based on field layout and method of irrigation supply . Based on the results, it was concluded that the mode ls could be applied more effectively to prevailing lowland rice conditions than the ILRI graphical method . |
