Abstract | A study on energy uses of bumrungrad Hospital, a 200-bed private hospital in Bangkok, has been carried out. Energy audit of various energy systems, such as electrical system, air conditioning system and steam production system have been made. The total energy consumption of the hospital was approximately 1.64 million MJ and costed about 5.84 million Bahts in 1984. It consumed 60.4 % and 39.6 % of electricity and diesel oil by quantity or 81.0 % and 19.0% by cost , respectively. Thermal energy systems which are the steam production system and the air conditioning system costed practically 62 % of the total energy bill. The energy and availability analyses are used to identify the locations, types and true magnitudes of wasted resource, reversible and irreversible losses from the thermal energy systems. Energy conservation opportunities in the thermal energy systems are identified, analyzed, and recommended. Economic returns of the potential conservation measures are also analyzed. The Saving that may be feasible from the recommended measures can be at least 42370 Bahts/year, or about 7.3 % of the total energy cost in 1984. A higher saving is also possible by incorporating good energy management along with the recommended measures. |
