AbstractRice and cassava are two commodities categorized as staple foods. Cassava is consumed particularly in rural Java when rice stock is tend to decrease. An Alternative marketing and post-harvest processing possibilities are necessary to be investigated in regard to generate additional income for farmers. Losses during such processing which are usually neglected should be realized as additional income for farmers. Most of the farmers were not aware the importance of improvement they should practice in processing. They are lack in providing suitable drying slab or pavement and storage facility for rice. Estimated losses during drying storing for rice are 1.2 and 1.1 percent, respectively. The use of low cost solar rice dryer and renovation of farmers' group office are among the alternative to be considered for the benefit of the farmers if quality deterioration and losses during drying and storing are to be minimized. The problems faced by the farmers in gaplek processing might be refer to unavailability of mat and storage facility. This condition could be taker into account for further improvement. Statistical test, namely, "difference-of-means-tests", are applied to examine the performance of revenue due to delay in processing. The result shows that revenue obtained from gaplek stored more than one month is lower compared to less than one month. Further analyses using the same tests to marketing system show that there is no difference between the value of the average revenue obtained by the farmers from tebasan system and normal marketing system for rice. However, the average value the farmers gained from tebasan system in selling fresh cassava is lower than normal marketing system.
