Abstract | This study pertains to the development of a microcomputer-based process planning system. Based on heuristic rules and metal-working process rules in mechanics, and using t he rule-based knowledge system as a software control tool , a metalwork rule-based process planning system is designed and implemented . For setting up more efficient system, the micro-PROLOG language is used . The whole system is derived by a menu from which the user can choose the necessary modules to execute. Each module comprises of major activity in the process planning. Finally, a report-formatted display can be produced on the screen . The system performance is demonstrated in several ways, such as, user's first impression, comparing the output results with traditional manual process planning list, and system comparison with similar microcomputer-based CAPP system. |
