AbstractThe objective of this study is to estimate a housing demand function for buyers in the Bangkok Metropolis and its vicinities. Factors that influence individuals’ purchasing decisions are investigated. In the quantitative analysis, housing is treated as a homogeneous product. The interest rate, housing loan availability, inflation and family size are identified as the key explanatory variables. Qualitative analysis based on interviews with experts and buyers suggests that the key consideration of new house buyers include location, living space, facilities, pricing and promotion, proximity to mass transit, design and construction, reputation of the developer and readiness for occupation. Put together, the quantitative and qualitative analyses provide a holistic picture of the financial and non-financial considerations of home buyers in Bangkok and its vicinities.
