Abstract | Digital Transformation (DT) is an attractive topic for both academics and practitioners. Scholars view DT as multidisciplinary phenomenon that correlates to numerous dimensions of firm’s performance. However, many incumbent firms have failed to benefit from this transformation as well as high failure rate despite their huge investment and adoption of digital technologies. This study aims to understand the role of leadership styles as key driver of a successful DT. To achieve this aim, this study proposes a model of relationship between the degree of DT and firm’s market performance, and the role of leadership (transformational and transactional leadership). Data were gathered from cross-industries sample of 288 middle managers from eight industries. The study applied confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structured equation modeling (SEM) by using IBM SPSS AMOS. The major finding shows that the degree of DT positively related to firm’s market performance (FMP). The results also found that both transformational leadership (TFL) and transactional leadership (TAL) are positively related to degree of DT. Furthermore, transactional leadership is positively related to firm’s market performance whereas, contrary to our hypothesis, the transformational leadership is not significantly related to firm’s market performance. Additionally, degree of DT is partially mediating the relationship between transactional leadership and firm’s market performance; and fully mediating the relationship between transformational leadership and firm’s market performance. This study makes substantial contribution to emerging market firm’s digital transformation and emergent leadership styles required for this DT’s initiatives. |
