AbstractBased on the thermodynamic and heat transfer analysis on each component parts, a dynamic model is constructed for a solar/ bio mass ice making machine. The required input data are all design parameters. The performance and dynamic behaviour of the system specified can be predicted . By changing the input parameters, one can easily make sensitivity analysis on the performance of the machine, which may help a designer to size the system at the preliminary stage. For long- term performance estimation of a solar intermittent absorption refrigeration system, two simplified methods, MIRA and TMD, have been verified against the detailed Day- by - Day simulation. For the systems using flat plate collectors, good agreement is found between the predictions of both MIRA and TMD and the corresponding results of the detailed simulation. Generally, the MIRA method offers better agreement than the TMD does. For concentrators the MIRA method is preferred. A3 0 - kg ice making machine would be powered by using 20 m2 of YASAKI Flat Plate or 15 m2 of M.A.N . Cylindrical Para bola with polar tracking or 1 4 m2 France Parabolic Dish with two - axis tracking. A preliminary economic evaluation shows that the system using flat plate collectors would be the best choice and the cost of ice produced by which is about 2 Baht /kg; this would be acceptable in remote area.
