AbstractAnaerobic and facultative ponds were used to treat latex concentrate wastewater before the eff1uent was upgraded by 1and treatment system. Anaerobic and facultative pond with areal organic loading of 0.41 Kg.COD/m2-d and 0.16 Kg.COD/m2-d achieved 35% and 63% organic reduction after 30 days detention time respectively. La nd treatment was found to be a feasible alternative to upgrade latex concentrate pond effluent. Slow Rate Application using Cholburiloamy sand and a hydraulic loading of 3.3 cm/d (0.08 Kg.COD/m2-d) demonstrates its highest efficiency in upgrading latex concentrate pond effluent. The effluent quality at 30 cm depth even meets the standards of 4th. generation effluent set up by Department of Environment ,Malaysia. Soil , be it sand , loam or clay can be enriched by latex concentrate pond effluent as the organic matter and Total N content increase significantly after irrigated by latex concentrate pond effluent which is rich in NH3- N. This makes the latex concentrate wastewater a potential soil conditioner and fertilizer. Hence, while preserving water resource, treatment of wastewater and productive recycling of nutrients could be materialized.
