Abstract | The characteristics of domestic sewage and some industrial wastes especially the high organic industrial wastes were given along with the general review of each type of stabilization ponds which are an anaerobic pond, a facultative pond and a maturation pond. Various design methods were reviewed so as to find the suitable design methods for use in Asian tropical climates. Stabilization pond systems treating domestic sewage for Asian tropical climates were recommended. Recommended stabilization pond systems of some industrial wastes including the performance of some existing pond systems were shown. The experimental study which has to be done so as to get the optimum design values for the actual pond system design to treat any industrial waste was recommended. Design facilities, operation and maintenance and the alternative methods for upgrading pond effluent are also provided. |
