Abstract | The foundation rocks of Mae Kuang Left Saddle dam composes mainly of sandstone, shale and their alternations which are subjected to various degrees of weathering and disturbance. Grouting is adopted as the treatment method. After secondary grouting the tests were carried out in order to check the effectiveness of grouting. effectiveness is not much achieved. Further treatment is required. Due to the differences in the behaviors of sandstone and highly weathered shale, they should be treated separately. Grouting is suitable for bedded and fractured sandstone but not suitable for highly weathered shale. The alternative treatment method for highly weathered shale must be considered. Those methods are such as chemical grouting, concrete diaphragm will with concrete cap, thermal treatment and the deeper extension of the excavation. The economics and reliability of each method will play the important role in selecting the most suitable method for such type of rock. |
