AbstractThe objectives of the research were to evaluate the effects of the East-West highway in Nepal on the Economy of the region it serves. The main economy of he region is agriculture, and the study emphasized agricultural development subsequent to the opening of the East-West Highway in the region. Population shits and changes in manufacturing development in the vicinity after the opening of the highway were studied. From analysis of the available records, it was found that the East-West highway had played a significant role in the increases in agricultural production and of manufacturing establishments in its vicinity. With the opening of the East-West Highway in the Eastern Development region, farmers were encouraged to adopt wheat as one of the major food grain crops, after paddy. Farmers in the area of the highway used more improved seeds compared to other parts of the country to increase agricultural production from the field.
