AbstractThe thesis consists of the collection, compilation, analysis and evaluation of geotechnical data to produce a factual and comprehensive study on the foundation practice and ground conditions in Metro Manila. the regional geology, soil conditions and the patterns of subsurface features that have significant influence on foundation practice are discussed. Simplified soil profiles were drawn to show the variability in the thicknesses and the extent of the different soil and rock deposits. Results of laboratory and field tests were evaluated and are presented together with statistical correlations found among soil properties. the prevailing practices in soil exploration, bearing capacity and settlement analysis, selection of design parameters, and the types and depths of foundations used in the different areas in Metro Manila are presented, as well as the results of soil stabilization and liquefaction studies.
